March 28th, 2009 Workout – Biking
On Saturday I went out for the first long ride of the year. I took the dog out first for a couple of kilometres and then I did another 10 kilometres on my own. My house is surrounded by hills so there were some tough uphills sections, but it felt great to get out for a nice long ride.
I am starting to wish I invested more in a bike though – I bought pretty much the cheapest one they had and it’s really starting to show. Oh well – I already have it, so I have to make the best of it.
March 27th, 2009 Workout – Plyometrics
I did the Plyometrics-X disc of P90-X last night. I could only finish the first half. It’s almost an hour of constant jumping and dynamic movements that are designed to improve your functional performance. It actually increases your ability to move better for sports and for real-life situations. I really want to improve my vertical jump for snowboarding so I’m doing this disc twice a week at least to work towards that.
In other news, I just picked up a Camelback pack. I’ve been looking for a nice compact hiking pack that I can also take biking or boarding and I found one that fit perfectly. Lucky for me I got a bunch of sportchek giftcards for my birthday … no way I’d pay that much for a backpack normally :|
I’m going to take the dog out for a quick ride and then bring him home and go out for a nice long bike ride. The weather is awesome right now and it’s going to rain later today so I need to get out there while it’s like this!
March 25th, 2009 Workout – Cardio
Did the Cardio X tape from P90X. Wasn’t too bad – a nice mix of a warm up, stretching, yoga, plyometrics, shadowboxing and core work.
The P90X dude in the video is starting to piss me off though. Every time he makes that X sign I think of Degeneration-X, lol.
March 24th, 2009 Workout – P90X – Chest & Back
I had my first real non-snowboarding workout in a few months tonight. Over the last few months I’ve been out snowboarding as much as I could. It’s a great workout, but the problem with it is that I’d eat crappy almost every time. Not only that, but I’d usually go the whole day without really eating and then eat a massive dinner. Ugh – I ended up gaining almost 20 pounds over the last few months – ate too much crap and didn’t work out enough. Next year I’m going to take a cooler with good food with me whenever I go boarding and take a camelback with some water and snacks as well.
Anyway – it’s time to start making progress again – first I need to get rid of this extra winter flub. I’m doing a week of detox with fresh foods only and then going back to my standard eating plan. As far as exercise, I’m doing P90X – I know a couple of people who had good results with it and have found it to be a good way to generally get in shape.
Today was the Chest & Back workout. It was pretty much a combination of different types of push ups and pull ups. It was pretty tough to get through and my numbers in my rep ranges really need a lot of improvement, but I’m back at it and it will come with time and consistency.
