A Man Reborn

Mosh Pit

by on Jul.28, 2010, under Journal

I just came back from Heavy MTL 2010 – a 2 day metal festival in Montreal and I had an incredibly fun time.  The bands were all great and I found some new artists to check out.  In general the event was run very well.  Getting into the venue was quick and painless, food and drink were not exorbitantly priced and you were able to bring in a lot of your own food and drink as well.

The vibe of the show was really fantastic.  I’ve found that somef metal-heads tend to be incredibly cliquey and elitist when it comes to their particular sub-genre of choice and I’ve seen that manifest itself in a negative way at other shows with a diverse lineup of bands.  I didn’t notice that much here, despite the diverse lineup.  The crowd had an endless flow of energy and everyone had a good time.  My perception of some bands has changed and I discovered some new bands to listen to as well.

Some words came to me while I was enjoying the music, so I threw them together below:

Mosh Pit

mosh pit

deafening sounds, guttural voices and heart pounding drums fill the air
the crowd chants, screams, claps and moves together, alive as one
a tempo change ripples into a flurry of movement
bodies collide, limbs fly and chaos erutps
from the outside, nothing but savage violent brutality
on the inside, it’s a different story
the heart of the music is felt as well as heard
inhibitions fade instantly and expression reigns
strangers become friends and negativity is flushed
someone stumbles and falls, but arms reach out to aid
and for that moment, you control chaos together
