Keys to Success: Seeking out those who have already achieved it

I’m going to get back to posting more information on here other than just my workout logs. I wanted this site to not only be a log of my transformation, but also a resource for others to use. So I’m going to put more effort into putting more useful information up here and reorganizing the site, including a much-needed redesign. I work in Web Design and I’m still using the default template here… I think the saying goes “The cobbler’s kids go barefoot”.

Back on topic - in my readings, one of the most important points I’ve seen stressed as a key to reaching your goals is to seek out others who have followed the same road before you. Listen to their stories, emulate their paths and take in everything they have to tell you. They’ve been there before and experience counts for everything.

I’ve been doing this - meeting and talking to people in person and online who have reached the goals I strive for. Some have offered encouragement, some have offered advice and some have even become good friends along the way. Sometimes I was ignored, but hey - people are busy and I understand that completely. I’ve never got any negative feedback from anyone I’ve reached out to and doing this has only helped me.

In my opinion, the benefits I’ve experienced by seeking out others who have gone through their own physical transformation include:

  • Advice/Knowledge - they have been there and hit all the same rough spots, so their advice/warnings has helped smooth over my own path a bit
  • Encouragement/Support - no matter how determined you are, it always helps to have encouragement from others and to know they believe in you - it only reinforces your own determination - sometimes the support from others is the difference between going off track for a month or a day
  • Motivation - knowing that someone has done this all before helps out when you feel like things aren’t going right - it helps you remember that change is not impossible
  • Support - having people you can turn to when going through a rough patch makes all the difference in the world - the support of others

I’m sure there are other benefits that I just can’t think of right now.

So remember, if you have a goal to reach then find someone who has already reached that goal. There are people out there who are more than happy to help you out, but you’ll never know unless you reach out them.
