Day 22/63 - May 15th, 2008 Workout - Conditioning
Went for my second conditioning class today. We started off doing a quick outdoor run for our warmup. I mapped it out on Google Maps (nerd, yaya) and it was just over 2km long. I was able to run the first kilometer without stopping, but had to take a couple of walking breaks during the second kilometer. I think it’s probably the furthest I’ve ever run non-stop… which is pretty sad when you think about it. In elementary school gym class I’d always give up during the runs and after that, I pretty much avoided running like the plague.
I’ve had problems running in the past, but today felt pretty good. I think I’ve finally dropped enough weight so I can start doing more running. Now that summer is here I think we’ll be doing this run at the beginning of each conditioning class. So my new goal by the end of the challenge is to be able to do the entire run without stopping.
The actual class went pretty good. We did a lot of squats (100 in a row I think), push ups, chin ups and a lot of ab work. We also did rope climbing, which I failed miserably at. I’ve literally never climbed a rope in my life - we never had it in gym class. I tried to watch how the other students were using their feet to brace themselves while climbing but was unable to get the hang of it. Next time!
I’m at the cottage until Sunday… so no Saturday class for me. I’m going to get out for a run while up at the cottage and a nice long kayak ride as well. If I’m back in time on Sunday then I’ll get in to the gym for a back day and then Monday I have Muay Thai class. Tomorrow I’m going to take a rest day. The last 3 days have been full of 100’s of squats and lunges, running, jumping and a class doing nothing but kicks. My legs need a break!
