Day 55/63 - June 16th, 2008 Workout - Muay Thai
I’ve finally got some breathing room from the craziness that was my schedule last week. I think a bit of rest did me some good though - the warm up today seemed easier than usual. So maybe it was a good thing? Either way - I’ll be hitting every workout this week, no matter what.
Today’s class was all about clinches. It was the first time I’ve done clinches in the advanced class and it was tough. It takes a lot out of you to hold on to someone and try to move them around when they are full out resisting and trying to escape. We worked various aspects of the clinch - how to get into and out of it, how to counter and reverse it and what to do when you’ve got someone in the clinch.
It was another fun class, but tiring. I can’t imagine the conditioning required to actually fight. I was exhausted just practicing the clinch - it would have been much tougher in an actual fight where you’re getting hit hard as well. I definitely need to up my endurance/conditioning training if I ever want to fight in the future… I’m a long way off from that.
On that note… Kru Lee announced that they are starting another sparring class on Wednesday nights. Going to try to pick up some headgear tomorrow and try it out this Wednesday. Right now I pretty much lose my composure while sparring, so the more practice the better.
