Day 1/63 – Workout Log – Muay Thai / Biking
Today is Monday which means Muay Thai at 6 o clock. My calves, ankles and knees were feeling sore and stiff all day from running up the hill during the 9 week challenge testing yesterday. I wasn’t sure how today’s class would feel because of that. The soreness went away within five minutes of our warm up and I didn’t notice it at all during class. I’m sure I’ll feel it double tomorrow though.
In class today we did some combo drills:
- l jab, r cross, block kick, r round kick, l uppercut, r cross
- l jab, r cross, l hook, block kick, r round kick, r round kick, l uppercut, r cross, l hook
Then we did some count up / down drills from one to five and back with jabs and round kicks – first single kicks, then double kicks.
After that we did some clinch drills and then some conditioning.
When I got home I took my dog Ozzy out for a bike ride. I’m not the only one who’s out of shape – he was tired after a couple of km.
I also noticed a nice big blister under the callus on my left big toe. That’s gonna feel nice during kicking drills. ;)

Blister - nice eh?
Not as sore as I thought I’d be…
I felt awesome this morning after last night’s workout. I thought I’d be at that debilitating level of soreness this morning, but it’s not actually that bad. I feel sore enough to know I did something, but not so sore that I can’t move.
Hopefully that means I haven’t lost as much of my conditioning as I was worried I did. Either way I am going to get it back. It’s really amazing how quickly things can turn around. The last couple of months especially I’ve had no energy and a dealt with a lot of different stresses. This last week I’ve felt nothing but an increasing buzz of energy and motivation. I know myself pretty well now and I know that this is the time to get things done. I have some ideas on ways to break me free of the grind and I am going to follow through on them while I have this energy behind me.
Of all the things I do, I hurt my leg at the carnival of all places.
I somehow hurt my leg this weekend. My right hamstring towards the inside of the back of the knee has been feeling pretty uncomfortable. I started noticing it Saturday and yesterday it was bad enough that it made me limp around. I’m not sure how I did it exactly, but I think it happened sometime Friday night at the carnival… I blame the shoddy rides ;) or maybe when I tried to spin upside down in the funhouse spinny.
It’s feeling a lot better today which is a good thing, but I’m going to take it easy on it and let it heal completely. I ended up not getting my tattoo done on Saturday so I’m able to train this week at least. I’ll do some heavy bag work tonight. I find that I keeping falling back to the same punching combinations so I’m going to look up different combination ideas and try those out. I picked up a book on speed training as well so I’m going to start doing some of the drills from the book to get my punching speed up.
