February 1st, 2010 Workout – Muay Thai
Today I went to Muay Thai for the first time in a few months. I thought it would kill me, but apparently boarding is better conditioning for my legs and core than I realized because I don’t feel like absolute death right now like the last time I came back after a break.
In general my legs and core are feeling pretty strong but the endurance in my arms definitely needs some more work. I’ve been doing random sets of push ups / pull ups daily but nothing too focused or strenuous. I need to get back to that and I need to get some more endurance into my front shoulder muscles – they definitely felt like the weak spot when it came to keeping my hands / pads held up during the drills.
Going to go back Wednesday. I won’t be able to get in too many classes this month due to my trips, but once March rolls around I’m gonna go full tilt again.
December 3rd, 2009 Workout – Heavy Bag
Did a warm-up, then did eight two-minute rounds on the heavy bag. Proceeded to sweat my balls off. Forgot how tough it is! Started just doing jabs and footwork and progressed up to full combos. Each round I would switch my stance. After 8 rounds I did a few rounds of 30-second on, 30-second off constant punching.
Fun workout… I miss Muay Thai, but with winter coming I won’t get in enough days and I could use the money for the astronomically high gas costs I’m going to have driving back and forth to ski hills!
November 26th, 2009 Workout – Heavy Bag
Absolutely drenched with sweat right now… and loving it. I did a heavy bag workout today and it’s been a while since the last one. I forgot just how much resistance it puts back at you and probably went a little overboard – groin feels a little tight in my left leg, but doesn’t seem too bad.
Did a warm up and some stretching, then did some core work – sit ups in front of the bag, holding myself up and then hitting it. Did the 1-10 drill with kicks on each leg and squats, for a total of 200 kicks and 200 squats. Then did some light rounds working on my punching and footwork technique.
I’ve missed this feeling :D
Tomorrow is an upper body day… chest, arms and back.
Day 57/63 – Workout Log – Muay Thai
Yesterday I went to Muay Thai after work. It was super humid out – 30 C without the humidity, so I was sweating in no time! Normally I write these right after but I got distracted for whatever reason and because of that I can’t remember exactly what drills we did. We did pretty much all cross-training drills though with a lot of focus on catching an opponent’s round kick and countering.
My partner for the day ended up being left handed and none of our drills were really jiving, so I switched stances. Surprisingly I was able to keep my technique pretty good as a lefty. Maybe one day I’ll get to pull off an Inigo Montoya moment ;)

Day 40/63 – Workout Log – Muay Thai
I finished work early today and between relaxing, being sore from yesterday and the crappy weather, I found myself really not wanting to go to Muay Thai tonight. But I know myself and I knew that I’d feel better after, so I packed up my stuff and went. Friday class is always good. Day 29/63 – Workout Log – Muay Thai
Went to Muay Thai for the first time in over a week and man did I ever miss it. Most of last week I was sick and then I was camping over the weekend so I wasn’t able to get in until today. We did some knee and elbow drills today which was a nice change of pace.

Day 15/63 – Workout Log – Muay Thai
Today’s Muay Thai class felt really great! I’m starting to feel like I’m getting some of my stamina back. I was able to keep a high energy level going through the entire class for the first time this month and still kept my mind on my technique.
Here’s the drills we went through:
- L jab, R cross, L hook, R cross
- L jab, R cross, L hook, R cross, L switch knee
- L jab, R cross, L hook, R cross, L switch knee, R round kick
- L round kick, R round kick
- L jab, double L jab, L jab, R cross
- L hook, R cross
I watched the advanced class for a bit after I was done. I really miss cross-fighting and sparring, but I need to get my stamina and technique back up to snuff before I start advanced classes again.
