I’m busy after work tonight and I didn’t want to miss a workout so I went to bed early last night, got up early this morning and went out for a bike ride.  It’s so peaceful being out there early in the morning.  The sun is out but not blazing hot yet and it just felt like such a great start to the day.

I’m starting to see some results physically.  I’m finding it hard to be patient with my weight loss this time around because I was just there and I already know how great it feels to have it off.  I will keep reminding myself to think long term.

Today’s workout was Konditioning class at Kombat Arts.  Linda runs this and it’s pretty much an hour of really tough boot-camp style drills.  In other words, torture, ha.  Here’s a list of what we did today – many of these were repeated a number of times and I missed a bunch, but you’ll get an idea of how the class goes:

  • jogging
  • sideways strides
  • cariocas
  • jogging
  • crunches
  • sprints
  • backwards sprints
  • wheelbarrows
  • wheelbarrows with pushups
  • backwards wheelbarrows
  • jumping jacks
  • ladder jumps
  • sprints
  • long jumps
  • squat thrusts
  • pull ups
  • wide squats
  • over / unders
  • leg raises
  • stretching

I had to stop a few times to catch my breath but I made it and I’ll be back every Tuesday now.  I got home and hopped on the bike for a quick 3 km with Ozzy.  He’s laying next to me passed out as I type this.  I was pretty beat when I got back but I love taking him out for a bike ride.  The big goofy grin on his face as he runs next to me makes it all worth it.

Today was beautiful out and I really wanted to spend some time outdoors, so after dinner I grabbed the dog and headed over to Centennial park.  We went for a nice long walk there and enjoyed the weather.

While we were there I climbed the 9 week challenge hill a couple of times and learned that Ozzy is way better at climbing than I am.  The second we got on the hill he wanted to run to the top!

It was nice to get outside for some exercise and I really enjoyed it.  I plan on doing this more often and tonight I am going to download some audio books to listen to on future long walks.  It’s really good for Ozzy too – he loves being outside and gets to snark around and chase things.

Day 24/63 – May 17th, 2008 Workout – Running / Kayaking

I was up at the cottage over the weekend and really wanted to keep active and not eat a lot… pretty much the opposite of what usually happens when I go to the cottage.

So Saturday morning I got up and took the dog for a run. On the way to the Cottage I measured out a kilometer long route from the Cottage using the odometer in my car. I ran the first kilometer straight without stopping, then paused for a minute, ran 500 meters, paused again and ran the rest of the way. My legs felt pretty good and I didn’t get any of the pains that I used to get while running.

After the run I came back and chilled for a while then went out kayaking. I love kayaking – the river is typically very peaceful and you actually get the chance to come across some wildlife while moving through the water. The last time I was there the rental guy told me there were rapids up the river – about 90 minutes – or 3 hours there and back. The longest I’ve ever gone Kayaking before was 2 hours, but I was feeling good and had a lot of energy so I went for it. After about an hour and a half I made it to the rapids – they were flowing so fast I couldn’t paddle any further. When I got back after 3 hours, my arms and back were a bit sore, but not nearly as much as I thought they would be. I still have a long way to go, but I actually felt like I was somewhat in shape after that ride and it felt good. :)
